HP Mentorship Project

Process

Step 1: Read and understand prompt. I chose Option 1.

Mentoring can be a great way to share knowledge and help someone be successful in their personal or professional life. But many potential mentors are often too busy and have a hard time connecting with people seeking help.

Option 1 - Mentor perspective

Please design one or two high-fidelity screens (or an experience) where mentors can manage and check the matched requests based on similar interests, expertise, location, and availability.

Information that could be shown to mentors: ( including but not limited to, free to adjust)

· List of matched needs

· Mentees’ info

· Mentees’ plan/ needs/ question

· Long term, short term, or urgent need

· Schedule

Step 2: Research HP’s Brand Identity. Since this position is hiring for a unique project I thought the standard HP (primarily for printing) wasn’t quite as engaging as the HPE brand identity While this was not in the prompt, I thought this would be a fitting choice to guide the UI style of this project. I downloaded the fonts, icons, and HPE UI sketch library.

Step 3: Jump into high-fidelity designing in Sketch.

Screen 1 shows the mentor’s “matches” page. They are categorized by long term and short term mentees who have matched to, and are interested in, this mentor’s expertise, mentoring interest, location, and availability. You can quickly view each mentee’s grade level, schedule (that will match the mentors) and the subject they need mentoring/tutoring in. The mentor can then view the proposal which is screen 2. Click the image below to see it full size in one screen.

The UI in my design is based loosely on LinkedIn so that mentors are familiar with the structure of the website.

Screen 2 shows what happens when a mentor clicks on view proposal. It will provide the mentor a way of contacting the parent of the mentee to accept them as a mentee. The mentee had the opportunity to write a written proposal to the mentor to make it more personal and touch on the exact areas they need help with. The mentor can also decline the mentee if it is not a good fit.
